With the recent Christina Aguilera “Burlesque” film soon to hit the rental and DVD markets, there has been an upsurge in interest in the burlesque costume scene. Already turned on to the period from her work in Baz Luhrmann’s “Moulin Rouge”, there is already a thriving resurgence in the club circuit and, of course, the legendary Dita Von Teese promoting the art as genuine entertainment. Some local councils have faced some internal debates over the approval of these shows in their local venues, with many falling on the side that these type of activities fall under the auspices of strip shows and adult entertainment. However the advocates for Burlesque argue otherwise, and point out that nudity often isn’t a part of the shows and more emphasis is placed on costume, dance and suggestion than anything else. Whatever the truth of the matter, Burlesque and Moulin Rouge costumes are becoming a popular party theme as well as a fun outfit choice for individuals.
